Malbec/Syrah 2007
The Blend:
¤ 75% Malbec - sourced from our Lot 66 vineyard, planted in 1995
¤ 25% Syrah - sourced from our Lot 66 vineyard, planted in 2002
Winemakers Notes:
¤ Yields were kept to 2.5 tons /acre, resulting in intensely concentrated fruit and deep purple colour.
¤ Grapes were hand harvested on October 10 with an average sugar concentration of 22.8 Brix and balanced acid concentration.
¤ Fermentation took place over 34 days attaining an alcohol reading of 13%.
¤ Full malolactic fermentation took place in older French and American oak cooperage during the 14 months of barrel aging.
Taste profile:
¤ Deep opaque purple colour with aromas of blueberry and plum, bakers chocolate, and cloves.
¤ The flavour follows through with the fruit and has initially tight tannins, but with some decanting and aeration will soften the tannins. The astringency and fruit follow through in a lengthy dry finish.
¤ This wine has the structure and fruit concentration to age in the cellar gracefully until 2018-2020.
